Many busy parents easily hand their child a gadget to keep their child occupied. Although gadgets can help your child learn, too much use of it can make them less active, and may even lead to technology addiction.

Smartphones, tablets and personal computers have become a necessity in modern times. These gadgets can affect the mental health of young people. Overuse of technology may even affect your child’s behavior.

Make an agreement with your children.

Limit their time for using these gadgets. Take time to sit down with your kids and make guidelines for using technology at home. It is better to write these guidelines on a chart or paper, so kids can always see it.

Establish gadget-free zones in your home.

Establish gadget free spaces in your home. For example: Avoid using gadgets during meals, don’t allow children to use gadgets during their bedtime. This applies not only to children but also for parents. Children tend to follow their parents. If you do not follow rules, they will not follow either.

Fun indoor games can be a good alternative.

Encourage kids to rediscover fun indoor games that do not involve the use of technology. Example: Board games, card games, and puzzles that aid brain development. These games help your kids have fun and develop their knowledge at the same time.

Allow them to earn their chance to use gadgets.

Allow them to use gadgets as rewards for being good children. They will be able to eat properly, do their homework, sleep on time and listen to parents.

Choose gadgets and apps carefully.

Allow children to play games and watch programs that can help them learn and get entertained as well. There is a big difference between watching science or history videos and watching song videos. There are lots of apps and games that can help your child learn something in a fun way. Help your child find apps and games that can help them in the long run.

Take them outside and play with them.

Get outside and play with your kids. Allow them to play with their friends. Teach them fun outdoor games and encourage them to stay active.

Collaborate with your children in managing the use of technology at home. We grew up in a different time where the use of technology was much less than it is today. So take your time to educate your kids for the future they are going to live, not the one we grew up in.

Are fidget spinners as useful as marketers claim?

As the name “fidget spinner” suggests, it’s a small hand spinning toy. It makes use of a bearing in the center to help with the spinning mechanism. This bearing could be made of plastic, brass, copper, stainless steel and titanium. It can have two or three arms.

Especially from 2017, marketers started selling these gadgets extensively advertising them as stress relief toys. Marketers claim that this toy is designed to help those who have trouble focusing on one task.

And they claim that it is for very helpful for people with autism, ADHD or anxiety disorders.
These spinners were invented in the early 1990s, but they became a popular stress relief toy only in recent days.

Many school children started using these toys in classrooms as they believe that this may help them concentrate. As a result of this, most schools have now started banning fidget spinners as they felt that these toys have become a distraction.

Many experts claim that the toy is actually more distracting than helping them. Some argue that fidget spinners can actually help them concentrate. While people stay divided on this claim, fidget spinners continue to be marketed as a popular stress relief toy. As of now, there is no scientific evidence to prove the usefulness of fidget spinners.
